Just $1099! | Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 Review
Hello Kitties I'm Chris from techert and for the past week I've had my sim secreted inside of the mighty techno Phantom VF 2 feels like I've only just reviewed Samsung's Galaxy Zed fold 6 and the Google pixel 9 Pro fold not to mention the fresh new OnePlus open Apex Edition still my favorite foldable and yet along comes another massive bendy blower ready to give your uncle Spa hernia as he tries to stash it inside of his pants let me tell you walking a couple of miles with one of these bricks crammed into your jeans as prostate popping fun so how does the Phantom v42 stack up against its massive Rivals well here's my in-depth review
Design & Build
so first up the Techno Fantom vfold 2 Sports a similar sausage style design to Samsung's Galaxy Zed fold 6 certainly doesn't feel very girthy especially when you stick it side by side with Google's pixel9 Pro fold that big fat sticky out bezel here it's reasonably skinny apart from the big old juty out camera bump as usual and it wears a badger ball hair under 250 g pretty standard for a big old Hefty foldy bugger like this reasonably rugged as well you've got a gorilla glass victus front not victus 2 unlike some of its more recent Rivals like the Galaxy and the Google you do also have an aluminium alloy frame which is reasonably smudge resistant you've got a matte finish to that big old hinge bit of phantom Brandon on there and then around back you've got a choice of two different finishes riin blue which comes with a leathery style finish apparently whereas this is the cast green model and this one's got a proper solid ass with a camouflage style pattern which will be very much love it or hate it I'm not a massive fan of the square camera bump there I prefer more rounded effort but whatever at least it does act as a handy finger shelf if you're trying to use the Phantom vfold 2 onehanded and this Mighty bendy blow is IP 54 rated so pretty good as far as dust and small annoying partically bits are concerned when it comes to the water resistance unfortunately likes the pixel 9 Pro fold and the Galaxy Zed fold 6 less bothered by moisture you can actually drop them fully in a bath turb of sink whatever and fish them out they should be fine as a good old Phantom get a bit wet in bit of drizzly UK weather scene not be too bothered by all that but I certainly wouldn't drop it in water if at all possible
Displays & Audio
now the screen here is a 6.42 in AMOLED it's full HD Plus resolution so pretty crispy especially as it's not an absolutely massive panel it's super super bright I had absolutely no issues seeing this Outdoors even when it was like actually Sunny which did happen last week mostly cuz I left the UK and went to Germany for a bit there were no HDR capabilities listed in Netflix perhaps it just doesn't support it just yet but certainly deep contrast as you'd expect from an AMOLED screen proper Inky Rel natural looking colors which you can tweak in the display settings if you want to and while this screen is better suited to you know kicking back with a movie or something thanks to that long stretched aspect ratio I had no problem using other apps and I didn't struggle quite as much as I did with the zold 6 when it came to typing Shenanigans like that and when you want to yank open at the techn Phantom vfold 2 well thankfully you've got rounded edges so it's easier to prize open than the Google and the Samsung efforts however I'm not as much of a fan of the Techno hinge here that's for sure compared with the Samsung and the Google Rivals it's certainly not as firm as most Rivals that I've tested as you can see it's a bit springy quite floppy which certainly nobody needs still that Massive Internal display that's squired away inside is a 7.85 in AMOLED so more than spacious enough to comfortably multitask with a couple of apps it's 2296 by 2000 pixel resolution so reasonably crisp again and just about bright enough for outdoor use although like all foldables you've got that highly reflective screen protector to deal with certainly not quite as bright as the pixel 9 Pro fold but I am suitably impressed by the crease action or practical lack of it this is only really obvious when you've got light reflecting right off that protector and likewise you can barely feel it when you're running your finger over it's just a slight Ridge there and I'm certainly a fan of the stereo speakers that techno has slapped on the Phantom vfold 2 as as well got full dull be atos support you can tweak the audio in the settings as you'd expect let me just give you a quick demonstration max out that volume I like this design it's been a while since I've seen a sort of a burgundy red type finish on any kind of smartphone I think Sony was the last one that did it to my recollection although as loyal viewers will testify your uncle spurt likes a drink so memory can be a way bit easy at times so certainly loud enough to hear what's going on if you're Skyping or just watching a bit of YouTube or whatever even if you're in noisy kitchen lots of pans clattering and a small child singing their lungs out just a few feet away
Software & Multitasking
on the software side well it's a bit of high OS launcher slathered on top of Android this does change up the general Vibe quite a bit so for instance you've got a control center which is separate from your notification screen you don't have the Google discover feed you've got whatever this thing's called but thankfully you do have an apps train all the usual Shenanigans although this is leaden with a fair bit of crap wear like a Facebook Instagram all the usual sh thankfully you can just delete all of this random crap and to be fair you do get a generous 512 gigs of storage and certainly techno not particularly disruptive or original when it comes to all of its internal screen features the Bendy Shenanigans so F this phone while you're streaming a video or whatever and you get the media controls popping up in that bottom half so you can quickly pause play Skip through that timeline Etc and when you're using an app you've got the usual dock which pops up down below so you can quickly and easily drag one of your other favorite apps or more recent apps right there on the screen in order to split it into and most apps that I tried on the Phantom VF 2 seem to support the split screen the only one I had troubles with was Spotify just could not get that to work split screen at all as usual a quick tap of this middle bar you can quickly swap reverse the two apps and if you're running just one app at any point you can swipe across the screen with two fingers that will also split the screen and then again you can get bit of two-way action on the go only thing I couldn't figure out was how to actually switch a top bottom split into a left right split and vice versa only thing I could manage to do was actually pop out one of the windows as a floating window like so and then you can get another bit of split screen action on the go so you can have three Windows On The Go at once that's your bag sadly not quite as satisfying to use as the incredible OnePlus open setup for instance I've also experienced a wee bit of jun here on the Techno Phantom vfold 2 so occasional app crashes when in split screen mode sometimes I'll drag an app out into the screen and it just won't split it at all the Apple just disappear just little things that you don't tend to see quite so often on some of its Rivals though haven't said that I did see Fair bit of jun on the pixel 9 Pro fold in My Week with that bad boy but of course like Google's bendy blower I've been using this techno foldable ahead of the official launch so hopefully there'll be another update or two before it goes on sale to sort out some of the sh chunkiness
Phantom V Pen
now like Samsung's Galaxy Zed fold 6 techno is also offering a bit of stylus support for the Phantom say hello to the Phantom V pen pretty Ruddy big of course compared with Samsung's S Pen and of course naturally there's no convenient orifice to stash it in just like the ZF 6 of course you only get that with the s24 ultra you do actually get a rubbery sheath bundled with the Phantom vpen which you can slip this stylus inside of like so and this can then be physically stuck to whatever you want but presumably not the actual phone because there's not really enough space for that you stick it to the cover screen or something otherwise you just have to find somewhere else to bung it but anyway with a quick swipe of the screen as you can see there you will then connected and you can fast access various features including a good bit of translations screen notes Etc or alternatively you can just tap this first of the two buttons that brings up the same menu and of course you get the usual AI based shenanigan you can just draw a crappy stick figure for instance when look slightly mentally deranged and then hit generate and boom you've got something a bit more advanced than what I drew anyway you've got almost 30 hours of continuous use and then you'll need to actually plug in the Phantom V pen to charge it back up via the convenient USBC Port not quite as convenient of course as just slapping it into your phone and having it charged that way
Performance
now performance and the techn Phantom v42 is powered by media teex dimensity 9,000 plus backed by 12 gigs of lovely RAM and the good news is I found the everyday experience nice and smooth and certainly gaming on the likes of we and waves and the most intensive Android titles not a problem at all that frame rate stayed just as fluid as what I found in the likes of the Galaxy Zed fold 6 even when I boosted the graphics sets to the highest possible levels at 60 frames per second I found the frame rate stayed nice and stable even when I've been gaming for a good long while you got a vber chamber packed in here plus graphine layers and all the usual coolant type Shenanigans and while the Phantom v42 certainly got a bit toasty around the sort of camera bump area I didn't find there was any kind of throttling or anything and it didn't get so warm that I wanted to drop the thing and blowing on my fingers that Massive Internal screen nice and responsive as well didn't have any sensitivity issues like I did with the pixel fold so certainly Gamers should be more than happy with the Phantom especially as you've got that handy gaming toolbar you can swipe out at any point to play around with the performance mode you can adjust the brightness turn on notifications blocking all kinds of great stuff
Battery Life
one area where the techn Phantom v42 really surprised me was the battery life you do have a whopping great battery stuffed in here 5,750 milliamp which is considerably bigger than what you'll find on the Google and Samsung Rivals even the onor Magics isn't that Bloody big however sadly I've got to say the battery life hasn't been particularly great here in my past week with my Sims stuffed in there in fact I actually find the battery life has been better on the pixel 9 Pro fold quite often I've struggled to make it through a full day without being right into the dregs of power saving mode so if you are a more demanding user lots of video chatting the occasional bit of gaming and stuff you might find you have to give it a bit of a topup during the day which I really was not expecting I was expecting this thing to last a couple of days on a single charge without too much stress hopefully that's just again because it's early software and everything with been pre-launch but we'll see I guess and the good news is that at least if you are running a bit low you need to juice it back up again you got 7 wat wired charging support on here so it does power up pretty nipply you've also got a bit of wireless charging support on here too with I could actually get it to work on my vertical standing wireless charger possibly because of the big old camera bump and everything who knows
Cameras
and then let's finish this techn Phantom v42 review with a squint at the camera Tech and what you have here is a triple 50 meg camera setup you've got a 50m wide sensor you've also got a 50 meg Ultra wide angle shooter and a 50 meg portrait Snapper with two times optical zoom I'm not a massive fan of this camera app it's all right but it does feel a little bit cluttered there's lots of different features and toggles and all the usual filters and everything does feel a little bit messy but it's not too bad for the majority of it to be fair you can just stick with the AI cam mode and ignore most of the rest but if you want it you've got the likes of a dedicated Pro mode with what use ual ISO wide balance Etc Shenanigans yes for the most part in my testing I stuck with AI Cam and I was generally happy with the test samples this thing spaffed out in HDR type situations the Phantom VF 2 doesn't artificially brighten those darker areas unlike some Appley and Samsung e shaped Rivals so that means you don't get any oversaturation but you do also lose some of the finer detail in those darker bits personally I do prefer techno's approach especially as you still get rich bold colors like these stun and blue skies and Good Old Germany again mental note next time I visit there don't just assume it'll be just as wet and gray and miserable as the UK cuz yeah wearing jeans and a hoodie in 38° weather meant a very very moist Uncle spurt indoor ambient snaps can be a little bit griny at times with slightly more muted tones but otherwise the full two doesn't embarrass itself when the liting is CAC oh yeah big up Love Sushi by waterl station for this absolutely banging food speaking of me being moist my mouth is absolutely dripping again just at the thought of it portrait shots usually come out well just make sure that when you're shooting two or more subjects that they stand pretty close or you might get some Focus issues and you can also use that portrait shooter to zoom in a wee bit but don't go beyond the sort of 10 time zoom level cuz those pictures get pretty fuzzy pretty fast as for the ultra wide angle shooter well it's absolutely fine pulls back for more dramatic Viewpoint and doesn't we bulk the tones or anything while it's doing so you can also Sho a bit of 4K video with pretty sharp visuals and again quite realistic tones that stabilization is pretty decent you can move about and shoot at the same time without watching it back and feeling a bit sick unfortunately zooming in and out is done with an onscreen slider and it's anything but smooth so I would say try and avoid that if possible when you're shooting and the audio kind of non-discriminatory what those mics pick up basically everything will be captured all around you including lots of background clamour but generally works out fine as long as you're not anywhere too noisy and then you do have a selfie camera on that cover screen as well as the mighty internal display as well Christ I can't even know this bloody thing haven't even had any whiskey yet just the four or five PS yeah that selfie cam on the internal display in particular is pretty basic doesn't capture a very clean or crisp image so unless you're indulging in some video chat sh you can always just use those rear cameras to shoot your selfies using the cover screen as a kind of viewfinder and that really helps out much in my case
Verdict
and there you have it my lovelies that a TS Wii nutshell is the Fresh D techno Phantom vfold 2 and I did quite enjoy a lot of my time spent with my sim stash here this past week it's certainly quite a beefy bendy blower the Design's pretty good as well apart from obviously the hinge just that little bit floppy not quite as firm as I usually like it and the battery life bit of a let down as well but hopefully that's just down to early software we will see anyway that's what I reckon it be gritty your thoughts on the Techno Phantom v42
